Baga and Anjuna Beaches - Arriving

I was shocked to find out that Bedi could not swim, Raj was apparently 'allergic' to water, and Yash has only been to the Sea once, if i remember correctly!
Well, it would certainly be a big adventure for them!
Our hotel, 4 beds for 6 people - perfectly sufficient - was a newly renovated guesthouse within walking distance of the beach. in fact, it was close to St. Anthony's on Baga beach ;-)
We spent most of the first day on Baga and Anjuna Beach, chilling, playing in the water and getting a boogie board - fun!! We even had some english breakfast, proper english breakfast, or at least, with proper ingredients, or at least, with the right kinds of ingredients! but itw was an india premiere for us, which is why it was special!
Speaking of which: After some time on the beach, us having english breakfast wasn't that much of a surprise anymore, because more and more did we realise that this entire place seems to be taken over by ft old english tourists, spending thire winder in the sun on a beach. I can't blame them, it was nice, but OMG, whyall those fat old ones and no fresh and pretty younger people?

Yash and me went off with my camera to go on a shooting spree, and took a vast amount of ridiculous wannabe model shots. Good fun, great picture(s), and a great way to pass your time!
Clearly, all those calvin klein adverts have been inspired by Yash and me!
Some time after that, around midday, i met up with Joe (de Souza), my friend from Stonyhurst (School) who lives in Goa. It was great to see him again after like 3 years, and i was not surprised to see him put on some weight! Isnt' it Joe!

The carnival was interesting to see, a lot of manual work has gone into producing nice and big floats, and it's nice to see people work together towards something, and then showcasing it. There was one float with a big spiderman figure on it - not sure what it was supposed to represent, but it certinly drew some attention.
I noticed a couple of the floats had slightly politicised messages on them, such as saving the environment or against smoking. Makes sense to use such an evernt to make a statement.
The brazillian music and the big patry did not, however, maaterialize while we were there, and we decided to venture off on a tour to see sime old christian churches. after all, a carnival is just a procession, and it's not like Pnjim carnival can compete with what happens here in Pune, Mumbai, London or Berlin.

Goa, being a coastal state was long occupied by the Portuguese, which can be seen and felt when in Panjim or Old Goa - the architecture and the names of places are certainly still indicative of the colonial past of Goa.
And the many churches there come as no more surprize really.
Curiousely, when we were about to leave that churches parking lot, some random 'salesman' came by and wanted to sell us something that even i was surprised by. Randomly enough, he thought he'd just walk up to our car and try to sell one of us pocket chess board/game. I kid you not, in the middle of Goa, next to a Church on an empty parking lot, this guys comes up to us and asks whether we'd like to buy a pocket chessboard... Yes, that's just what i needed! I wonder whether he's generally successful with that strategy!
