The search for a taxi driver at 1130pm on a thursday evening, who was willing to take us to Mersing (a port and a 4hr journey away!!!) proved to be a right mission!!! we finally approached a group of drivers, who seemed to be finishing for the day, or soemthing....the conferred amongst themselves in malay for some minutes, which was quite unnerving when it was so dark and there was a group of them (was glad of the 2 boys at this point - i hope they would have put up a fight if needed! :p ).....eventually one agreed to take us, at a price (about 20GBP each) - not bad as we were so desperate!!! - we had a ferry to catch at 7am!!!
and off we went in a car that grosely lacked suspension.....bumping all the way!! - however, we did manage to fall asleep in the dark - whether we should have or not is another matter...the roads were dark, the driver had never been there before....it was dogey to say the least - frankly, we could have ended up anywhere!!! - but at least we had the boys 'ey! lol!

we ran to the boat for cover and started our travelsto ubin.
ubin is a beautifully green island with little in the way of transport and activity. Apparently, this is how singapore was in the 1960s and before its big boom!! We got there and realised there actually wasn't much to do...infact the done thing seemed to be to hire a bike and ride around the island....and so we did - about 1GBP for the whole day's hire! - bargin!! - but also very interesting with the likes of me, who hadn't ridden a bike in, hmmmm, about 5 years, at least!! - but its trur what they say, you never forget to ride i bike! - WELL, not completely, within 5-10 mins i was as good as i ever was, which isn't great to be fair, but it sufficed!
and so, we rode around all day, up and down the hills (well, me n laura didnt exactly RIDE up!), through the forest-y areas, up to a beach-like area...admired the view, laughed and jokes, took some pictures....met a MASSIVE spider!....sat in a tree...attempted to climb a tree (well, anthony did)....drank pure REAL coconut water straight from the coconut shell...visited a buddhist temple and lastly, watched the sunset on the boat journey back to the mainland - or should i say the island of Singapore!

we also had a final quiet chinese meal by the river at boat quay amongst the romantic night lights of singapore...i was quietly emotional as i knew this was the last time id see this beautiful scene on my amazing 2-month trip! :-(

We had a beautiful pasta lunch in our favourite singapore cafe chain (what was the name again?!). I then i headed back to PGP to rearrange my things from a backpack to a suitcase and to say 'goodbye' to the good friends i made, while the girls carried on with the shopping!
Although i was trying to be cheery on the outside, saying goodbye, to PGP, Singapore and, most of all, to the people who made the trip a special one, was a very emotional process....the end of a relatively brief, but AMAZING era!!!!
(little was i to know at the time, that thanks to the likes of facebook and entrip....the memories are recorded and the friendships are still going strong....no matter how many miles there are between us all!!!)

Btw, do you remember how the taxi ride was? It was deadly! I sat in front of the driver and he fell asleep!!!
