We had four days planned for Sydney, before starting our roadtrip throughout the country.
The first day was rainy and cold, but it got better. We went to see the royal botanical garden and had a look at the animals living right in the city and Darling harbor...On the second day, we took the sight-seeing bus throughout the city and visited all important stops. Of course, we had to see the beaches and some of the nightlife before going on the road...

After about 3 hours of flying I woke up when the plane banked to the right and started to fly up the coast, we had reached Australia. The plane flew north for 5 minutes flying past the city giving me a perfect view of the main landmarks of the city, the plain the banked again and flew to the western side of the city, giving me another brilliant view from my window.
I didn't do much on that day as I was lacking in sleep, so only explored my immediate surroundings in the Kings Cross area of the city. The next day I donned my tourist had and got the train into the CBD. After a 5 minute walk first port of call was Circular Quay, the ferry terminal between the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. The only thing I remembered from my previous visit here in 1997 was the colour of the ferries and losing dad after getting off one of them. Right next to the terminal is Sydney Opera House, covered in tourists swarming up and down it's steps getting pictures to send back home. I walked around the buildings taking in the view and then made my way across Circular Quay to the Harbour Bridge, it took me a while to find the access to the footpath across the bridge, but once I did I walked across the main arch to the far pylons taking in the view. On the walk back I noticed that it was possible to go up the inside one of the southern pylons. I paid my $9.50 and went of in. Lots of steps to climb with an interesting display on the history of the bridge and a short film. Up more stairs was the top of the pylon with a lookout across Port Jackson. Back on ground level I walked up into the CBD to get some lunch and then went up the Sydney Centrepoint Tower, although not as tall as the Skytower in Auckland the Observation Deck was higher up. The lift took about 3 minutes to get to the top an age compared to the 40 seconds in Auckland. The view was pretty good again, but the essence of a observation tower is somehow weakened when there is an office block, just as high between you and the main landmarks.
After a long day I went back to the hostel and packed my bags ready to go the airport next morning.
All my flights are on something called an eTicket, it's pretty simple, I go up to the check in desk give them my passport, they key my name and passport number in and my details come up, the ticket is in reality a series of reservations linked together by a booking number. So when at Sydney airport I did the same as I had done for all my flights when the check in lady asked for my ticket. I said that I had an eTicket and she looked blankly at me "Can I have your eTicket?" after I had said no and explained how the system worked when she went away for a few minutes before reappearing with no more information. I then had to lead her through the check in process telling her to type my passport number into her computer and up popped my name, with my flight details and the details of all the flights I had taken or was to take on this trip. She looked at me as if I had just performed witchcraft.
