Originally this village used to be the only way to go from the north of switzerland to the south into Italy, which is one of the busiest route in europe until they built the Gotthard tunnel which now bypasses the village. It means its much quieter here and people can get on with their skiing speaking of which the skiing is great and the views are amazing.
We stayed at Paul's house in the village and it was big and comfy. Paul's family has been living here for ages and everybody in the village knows them. I think they even have a church here!!

Torbole is a great spot for windsurfing and sailing. It is little village at the northern side of the Lake Garda where you get the strongest winds as the lake forms some kind of a bottleneck here. The stony mountains around and the hot climate during the day generate thermal winds twice a day which are famous for a very stiff and constant breeze.
After having found a campsite that had some available space for us we enjoyed the atmosphere at the lake while having our first beer!

Our longest trip was to Tori, which took us about 4 hours due to the fact that we tried to sail without any movement in the air. Hence, we got roasted like chicken in the burning sun, as we suddenly realized that we would have to go back the same way...
Fortunately, on the way back the afternoon breeze came up and we sailed one of our fastest courses ever. With downwind and hardly any waves we were catapulted over the lake. At a certain speed and course all catamaran sailing boats start to make a sound that reminds of a circular saw which is produced by the vibration of the bodies. The sound that we heard on this one course, however, was far beyond that and I can tell you that I was rather afraid of witnessing a flip-over capsize to the front.
A couple of days later we were again sailing during the strong afternoon breeze, standing both in trapeze. I was steering being the man in the back as I suddenly felt that my trapeze belt was no longer connected with the wire. Holding the tiller in my right hand I tried to grab hold of a little bar at the wire with my other hand, yet I couldn't keep me up. Things went so quickly that I wasn't able to tell my brother what was going on. I got 'tea-bagged' at full speed. My brother, being left alone on the boat managed not to capsize (if you get the physics of why sailors are standing in trapeze right, you can imagine the effect of suddenly loosing 90 kilos on the windy side of a boat which is sailing on only one body on the other side) and could take me in after having veered. We found out that the little rope which is supposed to attach to me to the wire ripped!
The travellers of '2008' haven't posted anything public here... yet.
